Irish match for Glasgow City team

Women’s football team, Glasgow City, play Irish champions, Crusaders Newtonabber Strikers in Northern Ireland on Thursday of this week (5 August) in their opening match of the UEFA Champions League where they are in Group 7. Here, Laura Montgomery gives a preview of what was expected.
City arrived in Ireland on Tuesday and are well prepared ahead of their first test. Boss, Peter Caulfield, who leads his side into their third successive year in the Champions League, is confident his players know what is expected of them.
He said, ‘Every City player with the exception of two, has experience at this level in the Champions League and that is crucial for us. These matches are nothing like domestic football. The pressure is immense and also the standard of opposition is some of the best in Europe. The Champions League is the highlight of our year and we are determined to give an excellent account of ourselves. We have a few injury concerns, but other than that, the team are in fantastic shape, and whoever takes to the field I am sure will give a great performance for Glasgow City.’
The evening game takes place at Mill Meadow, Castledawson, in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
