Scottish Ballet issues a Challenge
July 8, 2010 by localnews
Scottish Ballet is hosting ‘The Dance Challenge’ as part of the Cultural Olympiad, a UK-wide celebration of arts and culture organised by the London 2012 Olympics.
On Saturday 24July from 10am till 12:15pm participants will be shown around Scottish Ballet’s award-winning headquarters at the Tramway, 25 Albert Drive, Pollokshields, Glasgow. They will be given the exclusive opportunity to enter the studios and observe the dancers in action as they prepare for their upcoming production, Geometry & Grace. This will be followed by a question and answers session with a dancer and the chance to take part in an hour long beginners’ ballet technique class.
As well as providing an exciting, unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of Scotland’s national ballet company, the Dance Challenge incorporates two of the Cultural Olympiad key themes: to bring together culture and sport and to encourage audiences towards active participation.
Having some knowledge of the stamina and skill required to dance, will help audiences to enjoy future performances even more. They may even be tempted to take up regular ballet classes as a new form of exercise and enjoyment!
The Dance Challenge is suitable for adults and young people aged 14 and up. Each class is limited to 22 places, which will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis.
