Glasgow’s Lord Provost, Bob Winter was due to open, formally, Maryhill Baths on Friday 4 June. The £9 million renovation has delivered the latest addition to Glasgow’s world-class leisure and fitness facilities.
Named Glasgow Club Maryhill, the complex has a state-of-the-art gymnasium including treadmills, cycling and rowing machines, and strength building equipment. Customers can take classes in the centre’s spacious dance studio, shape up in the dedicated spin area, or take a swim in the all-new 25-metre pool with adjacent children’s pool.
There is also a health suite and sauna, steam room and relaxation area. Fitness fanatics can take part in range of sports including badminton, volleyball, basketball, netball and five-a-side football in the large indoor sports hall, which has four individual games courts.
Since opening in April, the Glasgow Club Maryhill has attracted almost 30,000 visitors.
As well as providing additional leisure facilities for communities in the north west of the city, the new Glasgow Club Maryhill has also played a key role in the area’s regeneration.
The new centre has breathed new life into the former Maryhill Baths, which had been closed for over 20 years. The new facility retains many of the features of the original listed building including the stone frontage, cast iron columns and primary slate roof.
A second phase of the project will see the neighbouring Maryhill Burgh Halls refurbished over the next two years at a cost of £9million, taking the total investment to £18million.
