Willie Bain has officially become the Labour Party’s candidate for the Glasgow North East Parliamentary seat and claims to be the first Glasgow candidate from any party to complete the nomination process.
Willie, who is fighting the seat for the second time in seven months, succeeded former Speaker, Michael Martin as MP last autumn in the wake of the Westminster expenses scandal.
‘I am pleased to get the formalities of the nomination process out of the way. I can now focus on campaigning on the strength of Labour’s record in government for Scotland, and on our vision for the future,’ the candidate said on his Twitter network page.
Eileen Baxendale (Lib Dem), Graham Campbell (STUSC), Ruth Davidson (Conservative), Walter Hamilton (BNP), Billy McAllister (SNP) are also expected to stand for the seat.
