If the New Year Honours List was to be done away with – what would we put in its place? While the latest list contains no lollipop people and few of the ‘ordinary’ citizens who usually feature there, it does contain some key people whose work certainly helpS communities be all they can be. Mary Craig of the Lloyds TSB Foundation for Scotland may not be a household name. The Foundation, however, is well known and loved in a multitude of towns and villages across the country because it is funding from that body which has kept hope alive in those places by underwriting projects and local concerns. Now that there is a question mark over the continued existence of the funding body, those vital projects face a bleak future – if they have a future. Maybe readers of the LOCAL NEWS GLASGOW would have some good ideas for ways to replace the honours list? Answers by email to: newsdesk@localnewsglasgow or snail mail to: honours alternative, LOCAL NEWS GLASGOW, Yam Publications Ltd, 73 Robertson Street, Glasgow G2 8QD.
We’d also welcome names of people who have done something in their local neighbourhood which others think they are deserving of an honour.
