3000 Santas run amok in Glasgow

December 13, 2009 by

THREE thousand Santas braved the cold on a Sunday morning in Glasgow city centre for the annual 5k Santa dash. Among the throng of sporting St Nicks’ were football legends Kenny Dalglish and Alan Rough, and newsreader Jackie Bird. The runners were raising money for the Marina Dalglish Appeal and for the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. Around 160 staff and pupils from John Paul Academy joined in the race. Craig Mair, 17, from the school said: ‘Its great to take part, we’ve had an excellent time.’ The Marina Dalglish Appeal was started after Dalglish’s wife contracted breast cancer and was then cured. The appeal has already raised enough funds to pay for a chemotherapy centre at Aintree and Fazakerley hospital. They are now raising funds for a new radiotherapy centre in conjunction with the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology.
