A church hall in Baillieston used by nursery children and senior citizens was set on fire on the eve of its 50th anniversary.
Hope Hall at Baillieston Evangelical Church in Church Street was left with substantial smoke damage after fire-raisers broke in through a window.
The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday September 1 and repairs will now have to be carried out.
Police are treating the incident as wilful fire-raising.
The senior citizens were forced to cancel their celebration event and children from Coconut Childcare Centre have moved to nearby St Andrews Church Hall.
Detective Sergeant Roland Craig said: ‘This despicable and irresponsible act will deprive local people of a very important local resource for some time. I would urge anyone who has any information regarding those responsible for starting the fire to come forward.’
Witnesses are asked to contact Shettleston CID on telephone number 0141
532 4800. Alternatively, information can be passed to CRIMESTOPPERS on
0800 555 111.
